Lessedra World Art Print Competition

This year's First Prize winner of the Lessedra international print competition is Mark Graver with a nontoxic acrylic resist etching.

Mark's prints were influenced by a trip he made to Harbin in China in January last year.
He was invited to Harbin to be part of a judging panel for an international print show for children.


The images are based on Chinese calligraphy.
There are 26 in the series to reference the 26 letters of the English alphabet.


As part of the prize, Mark will have a solo show in Sofia for Lessedra 2011.

In this book, Mark Graver puts the case for non-toxic printmaking and then discusses the various technical factors (both materials and equipment) to take into account when etching with acrylic resists, making aquatints, etching in general, using drypoint, engraving, making mezzotints and collagraphs and using photopolymers as well as combining various printmaking techniques. There is also information on various inks and health and safety measures in the printing workshop. All in all, this book contains everything a printmaker will need to know about non-toxic printmaking.

About the Author

Mark Graver is an English printmaker who is currently working in New Zealand. He has masters degree from Camberwell College of Arts and he is a frequent contributor to various printmaking journals.

Northern Arizona University (NAU) Art Museum invites artists to submit work for the Fifth Biennial National Print Exhibition. This juried exhibition is open to student printmakers and professionals nation-wide and welcomes submissions in traditional and innovative print technologies.
 
Entries due June 1, 2010.  First place, $600.00.

We are delighted to have Melanie Yazzie, Associate Professor of Art at the University of Colorado as our juror for this exhibition.
